Vintage Love: Take Me Back in Time

I was honestly in a rut trying to come up with something to post today and I kind of hate admitting that. My thoughts on blogging go like this: You should love what you're doing and do it because you enjoy it. Therefore, if I'm in a rut or desperately searching for something to write about, I skip a day. Not that anyone notices anyway, but I'd rather let my blog sit empty for a day than force myself to write something I don't care about. I hope you guys appreciate that too, because, trust me, my writing just gets worst and worst the less I care about a topic.

Well, anyway, sometimes an idea strikes me out of no where and I just have to get it out there. I realized that as an Etsy seller, I don't talk about the store or my love of vintage as much as I maybe should. So what I did was throw together this treasury of some vintage items I found that make me smile! This one is spring themed because it's so nice out today all I can think about doing is going on a picnic with that vintage picnic basket I picked up years ago and have only used once. Geez, I really am a hoarder aren't I? Anyways, treasuries are fun to put together and you can actually shop what's in them! Enjoy!

What I Wore Wednesday: The Tangerine Tango Edition

Did you really think I wouldn't put up at least one post with the Pantone color of the year? Ok so maybe this shirt is a little more orange than tangerine, but I'm not normally big on orange. This shirt definitely stands out in my closet. I always try to buy items that aren't like other clothes I already have in my closet (it's a good practice, you should definitely try it), but when it comes down to it we naturally buy things that are similar because we like them and are comfortable in them. I'm at fault for sticking to the jewel tone color scheme. This shirt is a standout, even though it is totally simple. Challenge yourself! That's what fashion is all about! So I wore an orange shirt today. What was your challenge?

Tuesday Trendspotting: Daring Denim

Have you bought a pari of overalls yet this season? You must have seen them. Seems that overall shorts are all the rage right now. I've even seen some full blown overall outfits. Crazy isn't it? Who would have thought those would come back in style? I haven't decided how I feel about it yet. I can't really shake the Dukes and Hazard, redneck vibe that overalls give off, but some stylish ladies that are far more fashion savvy than I are pulling the look off and well.

Either way, wearing denim in ways that you don't normally is huge for the summer. Besides overalls, I've seen jean vest coming back with a vengeance. I am totally out of the style loop on this one. The closest thing I have is a cropped jean jacket. What is it with this 90s revival of denim wear? Although, I have to admit that I am all about the denim vest. You may see that pop up on here, there is one I've been eyeballing.

The overalls and the denim vest are very grunge revival looks, which is something that's been trending for a while now. Generally, being a child of the 90s, I love the whole new grunge look, but I don't know. Can overalls really make it off the cow farm and back into the city streets?

I don't hate this outfit with the overall shorts. It's pretty sweet with those leopard print boots. There's still something about it though that makes me feel like she just stepped off of the farm.

This outfit is actually really adorable. I love how she played up the overall shorts with the frilly top and the pearly necklace. It makes the whole thing much more feminine even though the overall shorts she actually has have some very masculine details. If I were to pick up a pair of overall shorts, it would definitely be these. 

This is my favorite outfit with overalls so far, but I think it's because it's a spin on them. I'm not positive these are even denim, but they are so straight and simple that I love them. I think if you catch me in a pair of overalls, they will have to be some sort of twist on the traditional denim. I saw a couple really cool pairs of vegan leather ones in this article. 

Again, I love the simplicity of this outfit. The button down shirt and simple black shoes make it seem classic somehow. 

Jean Vest

Again, mixing feminine and masculine with this pretty lace top and the sturdy jean vest. 

What's easier than adding a little bit of biker chic to your outfit with some motorcycle boots or cowboy boots and some distressed denim? This gal knows what's up.

The vintage shape of this denim vest gives it something a little different from the jean jacket without sleeves that we're all used to seeing.

Monday Design: Babington House in the UK

I need a vacation. Desperately. This Babington House in England that I saw would make the perfect little getaway. It's a country getaway with all the amenities of city life. More than a hotel, it has a community kitchen, study, library, and pool room. How perfect does that sound? Everything I would need or want from home without any of the stress or distractions. Day dream with me:

Somebody take me here please? I bet you could use a little vacation too.

Photo Friday: Charming Prints of High Street

I found these prints by Eric Ravilious on Elle Decor the other day and they charmed me into sharing them with you all. They're prints of the types of shops and people you would find on High Street, the British equivalent of Main Street. Every town has one and every one can relate. Even in the style of shops of the early 1900s you can imagine that everyone knew where to find what they need on High Street. I love these prints because they're those old fashioned book illustration prints that you just don't find anymore. You know the ones right? Where each print had to be inked and hand pressed into the pages of the book, those books were always special editions and cost a bundle. Oh dear, excuse me while I put my inner librarian back in the closet.

Either way, whether you know what I'm talking about or not, they're pretty prints of vintage times. What could be more charming? The book has actually been re-released so you can pick it up and see them up close for yourself. Something I might just do soon.

Vintage Love: Lana Del Rey and 60s Style

Can we talk about Lana Del Rey for a bit? I know that she's blown up since her album came out and lots of people have taken to making fun of her, but I'm going to put my head on the line here and tell you guys that I totally love her. I mean how brilliantly has she worked the Hollywood shallowness? This is a girl who released an album as herself and under it's somewhat disappointing numbers reinvented herself and released almost the exact same album! It's a completely sad testament to how we view beauty and talent that Lana Del Rey had to become Lana Del Rey, but I think it's very interesting.

Anyway, aside from enjoying her slow and sultry music, I am a huge fan of the Lana Del Rey style. She's just got this fashion sense that's so reminiscent of 60s bombshells and is as sultry as her music. Lana Del Rey's style is obviously inspired by and a call back to some of those iconic sultry women on the 60s (and some of my favorite style icons) like Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve.

It's no secret that I love vintage - vintage style, vintage decor, vintage graphics, vintage anything - so it can't be surprising that I adore her style. The 60s have quickly become one of my favorite eras in history for style which is convenient because 60s style is all the rage this spring. I want to start wearing capris and wide headbands for the rest of the season. If you want to tap into some of that 60s bombshell style, I suggest tossing in some touches of leopard print. Then again, leopard print is my answer to everything. Oh super secret thrifting tip? You can find some awesome pairs of capris from Banana Republic and J. Crew if you shop around Goodwills and Salvation Armies in more upscale (read: rich) neighborhoods. I've hit gold there before. You don't have to pick up vintage pieces to pull off vintage style. Anyway in homage to Lana Del Rey and the 60s, I've collected some pretty things for you all to look at. Enjoy!
