Interior Design: Southern Farmhouse Charm

I think I could live on a farm. At this point in my life, I'm over the big city livin' and I know that sounds weird to say considering that I'm only 26, but I do think I'm over it. I could slow down for a while. Especially, if farm house living meant a quaint little home with a studio space and plenty of land to run around on. Now, that I could definitely live with.

Interior Design: Industrial Chic Shopping

I was browsing around the Internetz, as usual, real estate stalking like I normally do when a Google ad caught my eye (damn you, Google ads!). Now, I'm a sucker for those membership discount sites just like anyone else, but they are usually a hodge podge of items. You get up to 80% off on anything you can think of (I just bought a set of fleece leggings on one of those). I've never found one more tailored to me than Dot & Bo.

Monday Design: Breakfast Nook Designs

All my life I've wanted a breakfast nook in the kitchen. Yes, you read that right - all my life. I was a weird kid. I have always been interested by home design and breakfast nooks are one of those interior design elements I remember begging my mom for. Yes, begging. Especially once we actually had the space. You see, my mom owns her own cleaning service and has some pretty fancy houses on her client list. When I was younger, we couldn't afford day car in the summers so I would go to work with my mom. Ok so mostly I would play while she worked, but I got to go inside these crazy huge houses - most of which had breakfast nooks. I'm assuming this is where my obsession began considering it was before internet (Right?! I know. When was that?).

Despite my darnedest efforts, we never did end up getting the breakfast nook of my dreams, but you better believe that when this little lady owns a house it will have a big squishy, sunny place designated for breakfast and tea. In the meantime, let's get inspired.

Monday Design: Grand Simplicity

Rose Uniacke's home is a dream. That's all I can really say about it. Although, I guess if I worked as an established interior designer, I'd make sure my home was a dream too.

Monday Design: Chic New York

If you love style and design and live on the internet like I do, you've probably already seen Athena Calderon's absolutely gorgeous New York apartment. And I do not feel bad about sharing it even though it's already been all over the internet because it really is an amazing work of interior design so seeing it again is a treat.

Monday Design: Best Use of Space Award

I've actually been meaning to post this video for a while and it kind of got lost in my back logs. My apologies if you've already seen it a million times, but I thought it was worth the share.

And the award for best use of space in a tiny apartment goes to.....

Monday Design: Mid Century in Chicago

A friend of mine just announced that she scored an awesome apartment in Chicago with mid century touches, which, of course, sent me on a hunt for mid century interiors. Naturally, I found an amazing 50s era apartment design that is actually in Chicago.

Monday Design: Downton Abbey Style

The design details in this home immediately made me think of Downton Abbey and I didn't realize why, at first. The design in the interior of the home is classic, but modern. It wasn't until I realized that the home itself is a Victorian era home in Scotland that it made sense. And it is gorgeous.

Monday Design: Masterful Color Combinations

I've finally started to repaint my apartment from all the crazy colors that it's been for the past year or so and it's coming along slowly. Which is giving me time to second guess myself. Of course, I've been dreaming of getting the white walls back for months and now that it's finally happening, I feel like I'm going to miss the colors! What is wrong with me people? Indecisive much? I realize though that my color combination skills are not so great and the real reason I hate the colorful apartment is that nothing matches, not that it's colorful. I should take some lessons from this color conscious couple who live in a beautifully decorated Los Angeles home that has bright colors and prints everywhere and yet still manages to look wonderfully put together.

Monday Design: Vintage Touches

I don't normally post businesses when I'm pulling interior design inspiration, but Emerald City Eyebrows is almost directly pulled from my dreams. I would live here if I could. It's located in Denver, Colorado, so if you're local check it out and tell me if it's everything I thought it would be.

Monday Design: Unfinished Wood Dinner Table

It's no secret that I am obsessed with anything that has a rustic style to it - exposed brick, high wood beams on the ceilings. I mean, move me into a refinished barn already, right? Well, lately what's been catching my eye has been these massive unfinished wood dining room tables. Have you seen them? You must have. They're everywhere it seems like, which is only working to further ignite my buyer's lust for them. Of course, even if I did have the money to buy or make one of these gorgeous pieces, I'd have absolutely no where to put one. Sigh. One day, right?

Monday Design: Design is in the Details

I have an immense fascination with interior photography. Mostly I think this is because I just love photography in general, but interior photography is of a whole different level. Shooting inside is extremely difficult for me and I love admiring the work of those who can do it and do it really well, like David Prince.

Monday Design: Jayson Home + a Couch Re-do

So my couch has been broken for probably over a year now. The arm is separating from the rest of it and to lessen the issue, the roommate and I took the legs off of it as what was supposed to be a temporary solution. Well, turns out couches are expensive and temporary became long-term very quickly. Every so often I get daydream-y and start window shopping the internet for new couches. And every so often I find some amazing things.

That's how I stumbled across Jayson Home. They're spring lookbook put me in new couch heaven. Of course, it's all completely out of my price range, but that doesn't mean I can't look right? I love the style of the spring/summer collection. It's got touches of mid-century modern yet is so entirely lush and regal. I would definitely enjoy resting my butt in on of these seats. A few of the arm chairs remind me of thrones and what better way to motivate me to blog regularly than to sit in a throne office chair? I must start saving my pennies.

This would be my office chair if I ever owned a big corporation or decided to become an evil scientist.

Since it's going to be a long time until I can afford something like this, I've been considering other alternatives. This one grabbed me immediately because it's an IKEA hack of my exact couch. Same color and everything!

How cool looking is that? It would completely solve the problem of the arm splitting because it would be supported now and I could have legs on my couch again! I haven't quite figured out yet if this would cost more to build than just picking up a new couch at the Salvation Army and I would have to try and convince the roommate to build it (I don't quite trust myself when it comes to carpentry), so we'll see. If I do decide to try and jerry rig this together somehow you better believe I'll share pictures!

What's one piece of furniture you wish you could replace or update?

Monday Design: The Classiest Bachelor Pad

Today's design feature is actually a showroom not a living space. The showroom belongs to avant-garde design collector Alketas Pazis and it's a fantastic collection of furniture, rugs, and other design pieces from 1900 to 1950. Pazis's showroom is located in Athens and he has spent his career collecting pieces that have been used in countless movies, magazines, and t.v. shows.

I about lost it when I stumbled across this place. What I'm wondering is how do I get this job? I love collecting old and obscure stuff. Who wants to rent it from me for their movie? Anyway, when I first gimplsed this showroom Pazis put together or his vintage collectables I thought, "This is how I would design the ultimate bachelor pad if I were a designer." This would have to be the home of one worldly, stylish, and endless interesting gentleman. The dark, rich colors on the walls and the brown accents always make me think of manly design.

Considering it is entirely styled from vintage design pieces dating between 1900 and 1950, it might be more appropriate to call this a vintage-loving man's can. Either way, I love it.

What do you say fellows? Would you live here? Ladies, what would you think of the man that lived here?

Monday Design: Create Your Own Futuristic Office Space

Now, I love all things vintage and I know this is a brand-spanking-new design, BUT you can't tell me this desk table design by Turkish design firm NĂĽvist does not make you think of all those examples from the 60s of what the "future" would look like. Don't get me wrong, the design itself is fantastic. I love the organic shape and fluid feel. I imagine a viscous liquid that froze mid-pour. It would be an amazing focal piece in an otherwise sterile office space. All images via FreshHome.

But looking at the Volna table I still think it would fit in perfectly with the aesthetic in this 1960s depiction of a home from the future. Can you see it too or am I just a nut? Check out this artist's conception of a future home, would this organic desk fit right in? I can see the Brady Bunch going to see an exhibit on the "future" and seeing this desk.

It's probably just me, either way the Volna desk is a futuristic, space-age dream.

Fun fact: I just asked the roommate if he thinks this desk is cool and he looked at me like I'm crazy.  Am I the only one that thinks this is awesome? Ok, the desk in no way fits into the rustic-chic aesthetic that I usually go for, but if I were to design a modern office for perhaps a publishing company or advertising I would give these to the receptionist.

So tell me what you think about the Volna desk, awesome, interesting, or just plain weird?

Monday Design: Clean and Eclectic

Today via my favorite interior design blog, Desire to Inspire, I found an amazing photography duo in Amelia and Andreas Lönngren Widell. They have an impressive photography portfolio, but of course I gravitated towards their photos of interiors and I have to say that our tastes match up exactly if these two chose all these locations. Any of these interiors could have easily been pulled from my dreams. In case you haven't noticed yet, my dream home would consist of clean and modern furniture with rustic touches. I love that this first interior shoot does just that. The walls are simple and white and the furniture is pretty basic, but the collection of stuff, for lack of a better term, makes it feel perfectly home-y.

This living room is simple, clean, and eclectic.  I love it!

I love the steel greys in this living room with the pops of color in the pillow on the couch, but I have to admit that I included this photo because there is an adorable puppy in it!
Loving everything about this living room from he vintage crate coffee table to the old fire stove in the corner just reaffirms my belief that I secretly want to be a cowgirl.
There is something mysterious about this lone-standing chair. No? Just me?

What design elements live in your dream space?
