What I Wore: The Winter Wonderland Edition

We've had quite a few inches of snow here in Chicago the last few weeks. Meaning that I've hardly been away from my Dr. Martens and fleece lined leggings at all and while I do adore both of those things, sometimes you do start to hate wearing the same shoes every single day. This is why I own like 40 pairs of shoes - I like variety. Winter does not like variety. It's cold and bleak and snowy pretty much the whole time, meaning there is no place for tights or heels or anything cute unless you want to freeze and you like having everyone look at you like you're a maniac.

So, to break free from my arctic jungle, I decided to go for the winter wonderland look. Puffy skirt, fuzzy sweater, and sturdy heeled foots with fur lining. Yes, they are warm, not they are not good on ice or snow. Since the snow and ice have subsided a bit, I thought it was okay to bust them out. They're actually a really pretty reddish-brown color, but it turns out it's hard to get good lighting on days when it looks like there's a blizzard brewing. Go figure. Even though it was freezing out, it was fun to dress in something other than fleece leggings, work boots, and my thickest sweater.

I love how playful and versatile the tulle skirt is. I was weary when I bought it because I thought it was a little too young for me, but if you go for a tulle skirt in a neutral color and one that's not too stiff, it will hang like a chiffon from far away making it much more adult but still fun to wear! If you've been thinking about investing in one, I highly recommend buying one in person vs online because then you can really see how the fabric falls or if it's too stiff. Cheaper tulle tends to be of the little girl tutu variety and it will probably make you feel like a 30 year old fairy princess. But hey, if that's your thing, you do you. I just try to save my fairy wings for special occasions ;)

And that's that folks! 1 day. Now I've packed up all of my fun clothes and am back to the fleece leggings. Negative 20 degree weather, here I come.

What's your least favorite thing about dressing for winter?

  1. Super cute outfit. I'm so tired of the winter we're having. I've given up on pictures, but I've managed to get a couple cute outfits in here and there.

    1. Ugh, I know what you mean. It's so hard to even want to get dressed and take pictures in this cold. We'll be taking pictures in sunshine again soon!
