What I Wore: The Simple Things Edition

I am going to preface this post by saying that I am not an American Apparel girl. Generally, I think they are totally over-priced for basics. That being said, I spent way too much money at American Apparel the other day. Even though I know I can get most of the same stuff for way cheaper, they still suck me in some times. This was one of those times. I'm not a big "pants" person. If you follow my blog, you'll see that I mostly wear dresses and tights or leggings. This isn't because I think they look better on the blog, it's because I hate pants! They're constricting. What's the point when I can be in tights all day? However, I do have an unfortunate affinity for mom jeans. I think it's my irrational fear of the muffin top. Anyway, they don't make a lot of mom jeans that make me feel like I'm working it. The American Apparel Easy Jean is one of those.

 Outfit Details:

I am obsessed with this jean. It's the perfect height for crop tops. They're called a "jean" but let's be honest here, they're just leggings with pockets and a zipper, which is exactly what I love to wear. So I bought three pairs, because the lady at the counter told me my third pair would be 50% off. Jerk. I am not ashamed though. These mom jeans will definitely get a lot of wear.

A note about crop tops: I love them. Why? They look good on everyone. I'm not kidding. Everyone. As long as they're paired with a high-waisted anything. No matter what size you are, if you can throw on a high-waisted skirt and a flowy crop top, you'll look stylish. Now, I do know that it takes some level of confidence to even try and pull this off and it took me a while to get there, but take a chance! Like I always do, start small. If you've always wanted to try the crop top trend (and there are SO MANY) this is the season to do it! Here's what I recommend: find a high-waisted pant or skirt that makes you feel fabulous and pair it with a crop top that's not tight fitting. I promise it'll feel way less revealing (but still a little sexy - which is the point, right?).

Aside from my love of these pants, this shirt sucked me in. Not only is it soft, but it's FUZZY! Oh yes, fuzzy. I'm going to be wearing it all the time.

I promise there was no fan involved in this photo shoot. It just happened to be really windy. I tried to work with it. Excuse the dumb looks on my face.

What do you think about the crop top trend? Would you try it?

  1. I like this look, the "mom" jeans and the crop top trend, buy aren't you cold? I thought you were in Chicago and o can't remember a day recently where you wouldn't have been freezing in this. Maybe I sleep through a day?

Anyway, I'm also like you - jeans are uncomfortable and I only like them high waisted. Target started selling high waisted jeans recently. If you are looking for a white pair, the ones they have now are really comfy. And... That's enough rambling for one comment.

    1. Haha you caught me. I was pretty cold. It was a quick shoot and it was one of those days it was in the 30s. I obviously didn't leave the house without a jacket, but I toughed it out for the photos! Thanks for the Target tip! I know you're a Chicago girl too, we should plan a shopping trip together.
