Photo Friday: Vinyl Album Covers and The Streets

What a week! Sometimes being on vacation is more exhausting than a regular workweek. Although I have very much enjoyed hanging around the city and playing tourist. Soon it's back to the grind. In the meantime, I found this awesome photo editorial mixing famous album covers with a photo of the same location now. It took my eyes some adjustment time for some of them, but they are a fun photography project nonetheless.

Sunday Moment of Zen: Love is Making It's Way Back Home

This song is cute all on it's own, but the video makes it great. The things that artists can do with laser cut paper never ceases to amaze me. I can't even comprehend the amount of planning and and time that went into setting up and filming this video. But I guess that's why I don't create brilliant things like this, I just enjoy them. What I Wore: Summer Music Festival Edition

I don't know if you realize this about me, but I am a Twitter fiend. I'm on all day long talking to people and talking about craziness, so if you're into that you should definitely follow me ;) Anyway, thanks to my constant searching of Twitter, I found a contest being held by Whole Foods in Chicago to win a pair of tickets to one day of Pitchfork Music Festival and I won! It was probably the only thing I've ever won in my life, but it was very cool. So today's outfit post is my weekend music festival outfit! 

Disclosure: the motorcycle in the background is not mine or anyone's that I know. It just happened to be parked behind my building and I totally wanted to look like a badass. Of course, I was too scared to take any picture actually ON the bike, so it's entirely a backdrop. I'm so cool, right?

Sunday Moment of Zen: How Much I Love This

The only this I have to say about this video is that it is awesome and you have to watch it. The song is really fun on it's own, but apparently Cosmo Jarvis made this video by strapping a camera and a boom box (yes, I just said boom box) to the top of a friend's car and lip synching. How fun is that? I wonder if they were able to get all this craziness in on one take. Enjoy!

Vintage Love: Lana Del Rey and 60s Style

Can we talk about Lana Del Rey for a bit? I know that she's blown up since her album came out and lots of people have taken to making fun of her, but I'm going to put my head on the line here and tell you guys that I totally love her. I mean how brilliantly has she worked the Hollywood shallowness? This is a girl who released an album as herself and under it's somewhat disappointing numbers reinvented herself and released almost the exact same album! It's a completely sad testament to how we view beauty and talent that Lana Del Rey had to become Lana Del Rey, but I think it's very interesting.

Anyway, aside from enjoying her slow and sultry music, I am a huge fan of the Lana Del Rey style. She's just got this fashion sense that's so reminiscent of 60s bombshells and is as sultry as her music. Lana Del Rey's style is obviously inspired by and a call back to some of those iconic sultry women on the 60s (and some of my favorite style icons) like Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve.

It's no secret that I love vintage - vintage style, vintage decor, vintage graphics, vintage anything - so it can't be surprising that I adore her style. The 60s have quickly become one of my favorite eras in history for style which is convenient because 60s style is all the rage this spring. I want to start wearing capris and wide headbands for the rest of the season. If you want to tap into some of that 60s bombshell style, I suggest tossing in some touches of leopard print. Then again, leopard print is my answer to everything. Oh super secret thrifting tip? You can find some awesome pairs of capris from Banana Republic and J. Crew if you shop around Goodwills and Salvation Armies in more upscale (read: rich) neighborhoods. I've hit gold there before. You don't have to pick up vintage pieces to pull off vintage style. Anyway in homage to Lana Del Rey and the 60s, I've collected some pretty things for you all to look at. Enjoy!
